Rethinking Age for Lasik Eye Surgery

Rethinking Age for Lasik Eye Surgery

LASIK is FDA approved for people 18 years and beyond. Many young adults are encouraged to wait until their mid-20s when their prescription is more stable. When it comes down to it, eye surgeons perform laser eye surgery on patients at both ends of the age spectrum. Many young active adults start to notice that many of their friends and classmates are talking about the benefits of LASIK. A laser vision correction procedure can give young people high performance vision without the hassle of eye glasses and contacts. This is combined with the cost savings benefit by avoiding a lifetime of expense for glasses, contacts and solutions.

There is no reason a younger patient should not have the opportunity to see more clearly without having to wear corrective lenses. There are no concrete guidelines on refractive surgery for the younger generation. So, if you are considering LASIK Surgery in your 20’s and 30’s? The first step is to discuss your options with your physician and get a complete annual comprehensive eye exam.

One Response to Rethinking Age for Lasik Eye Surgery

  1. My son has been wearing glasses most of his life, and would like to have it taken care of. It’s good to know that when it comes to choosing a lasik procedure, we might have to wait till he is a young adult. This is something that I never thought of before, and will now talk to his doctor about.
